Photonz – Nuit

Art direction with full package design and illustration for the debut album Nuit of Portuguese musician Photonz, released on Dark Entries Records. Nuit is the Ancient Egyptian Goddess of the Stars or Night, and also the concept of “freedom of form under the night sky” which manifests through dance music and nightlife. The music channels early techno, trance-inducing rhythms, balearic and atmospheric house. The Nuit concept within the lens of contemporary dance music is carried throughout the package design. The illustrations on the cover represent different mystic elements from Ancient Egypt: an abstract form of Nuit in nightly embrace, the Eye of Horus, the Ankh, and the Cobra. They also subtly shape the letterforms of the album title N-U-I-T, and the letters also distinguish each of the 4 LP sides. The artist name Photonz is meant to be read top to bottom, left to right like hieroglyphics. The other illustrations are loose and primal, spiralling night, star and moon symbols, inspired by rave culture. The colors deep black and blue contrast with fluorescent yellow that is meant to glow bright under blacklights and other night or club environments. A complementary glow-in-the-dark sticker completes the package.
