Sylvester – Private Recordings: August 1970
Creative direction and full package design for Private Recordings: August 1970, an LP of vintage jazz, blues, and gospel by disco legend Sylvester, released on Dark Entries Records. While Sylvester is best known for his chart-topping collaborations with producer Patrick Cowley in the ‘70s such as “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real),” this release reveals his passion for the sounds of the 1930s and collaboration with Peter Mintun, a pianist and record collector living in a commune in San Francisco. The sleeve design is inspired by the Art Deco aesthetic and era that connected them, printed in black-and-white and elegant metallic silver. A 16-page booklet is included with custom art deco door illustration, featuring glamorous photos of Sylvester posing around San Francisco.
